If this headline doesn’t get your attention, I don’t know what will. Whether you agree with it, or think it doesn’t make sense, respectfully, that doesn’t matter.

So, here’s what to do.

For those of us who must pay attention to younger team members/employees, please be aware of their view:

  • grass is always greener
  • short attention span

If you have not been very straight forward about what their role truly looks like, and followed through, they will be gone.
Questions to ask your self, and them:

  • Where/why is the disconnection?
  • Did you assume something about them and clearly get it wrong? If so, own it and talk with them about it.
  • Are you talking/collaborating with them to come up with a win-win solution? If not, why not?
  • Are you helping them to find the words to explain to you what they want/need? Empowering/mentoring them to advocate for themselves?

If you do it right and do it well, they will be #loyal to you!
